Behind the North Sea

On 27 December, we invite you to take a unique look behind the scenes of our daily work at the North Sea Oceanarium. You can get up close to staff and animals and see what it takes to run Northern Europe’s largest aquarium.

You can visit the filter cellar and see the fascinating pump system that supplies our many aquariums with millions of litres of seawater every day, as well as the filters that ensure that the water meets our high standards.

We will also show and tell you more about one of our conservation projects, the Lobster Project, when we invite you into the breeding room and show the lobster’s journey from egg to adult lobster on the North Sea reef.

It will also be possible to hear much more about our work with and training the seals when you meet the seal keeper before each feeding.

In the Whale Researcher’s Hut, you can learn about some of the exciting whale sightings made in the North Sea and hear more about the various research projects we have contributed to.

If you want to try your hand at some of our work, you can dissect a crab and learn more about their biology and anatomy.
