It's spring! And love is blossoming in the aquariums.
Several species of fish begin their breeding cycle in the spring, so we’re now taking a closer look at eggs and fry.
We’re transforming our Backstage area into a little fish nursery and filling the small aquariums with lots of fascinating fry and eggs. There’ll be everything from small- and large-spotted red sharks to cute little rockfish.
Of course, we also have the daily feeding of sharks, rays and thousands of schooling fish, when the diver jumps into the 4.5-million-litre Oceanarium and talks about life beneath the surface.
Twice a day, our skilled animal keepers train and feed the seals in the large outdoor enclosure. Here we have both grey seals and spotted seals – and not least the playful youngster from last summer: Frey.
May 14-17 and May 23-25, we’re stepping up our programme of activities, including opening the creative workshop ‘Værftet’, where young and old alike can unleash their creativity. We’ll also be looking at fascinating microorganisms and learning to tell the difference between shark and ray eggs.
Spring Bingo – a fun hunt through the aquariums
Every day, you can go on a discovery hunt with Spring Bingo and see which member of the family is the first to find all the animals on the bingo card. Perhaps you’ll spot a lumpfish, a tiny jellyfish or a baby shark?
Along the way, you’ll learn fun facts about the animals – for example, that a lumpfish can carry up to 200,000 eggs.
