3 weeks with focus on research and different activities such as ”Scientist for a Day”, ”Cod Exploration”, or ”Exploring the Secrets of the Sea Floor”. You could also listen to a lecture on the joint Nordsøen Oceanarium / DTU Aqua lobster project.

Four days packed with celebration activities!

There are many endangered species of animal -  we focus on the plight of the European eel with a very exciting exhibition about the eel in the seas and about Eel-hatch, a company in Hirtshals attempting to solve the mystery of how eels reproduce.

• The Crab Coast crab fishing facility is open every day (may be closed in bad weather)
• The Ocean View is open every day
• Ship O´Hoy - experience a windy day on a 'fishing boat'.
• Trips to the fish auction: on July 12, July 16, July 24, and August 2 (in connection with the Hirtshals Fish Festival)
• Guided boat tours in Hirtshals harbor onboard the ”Johs. Hejlesen” museum ship.
• Fishing activities and 'hygge' By the Lighthouse on selected days - join our guides on a fishing expedition to the Emmersbækken creek and learn how to determine the breed of the many freshwater animals
• The Whale Researchers Hut hums with activity
• Check out the enormous fin whale skeleton from the nearby town of Blokhus
• 2 x Feeding in the Oceanarium at 11.00 and 15.00
• 2 x Feeding of the Seals at 12.00 and 16.00
• Amber hunting in the sand box - searching for the gold of the oceans, amber!

Danish waters are home to many sharks and rays and we will concentrate our attention on them on this international Shark and Ray Day.

Come face to face with these amazing and fascinating beings and learn a lot about them!

Theme: biodiversity

Every year, the Danish society for Nature Conservation and the Danish Outdoor Council arrange Nature Week to give children and their families an opportunity to rediscover the wonders of nature. The Nordsøen Oceanarium supports this effort.

”The reason is that modern children spend less time in nature compared to their parents and grandparents.”

We want to contribute to changing this pattern. So, join us for a time of exploring and experiencing the wonders of nature together!

This year, we will be focusing on one of the magical creatures of the oceans: The Octopus.

We will also be celebrating World Octopus Day on October 8.

Come up and see what the inside of a an octopus looks like. And did you know that octopi have three hearts?

Join us as we dissect these peculiar creatures and learn more about them.

Dead animals are important in relation to biodiversity.

We will take a closer look at the processes of nature while we tell you about life as a result of death.

Interesting topics such as blood and decomposition will set the mood for the Halloween season.

A jellyfish is much more than just jelly.

To celebrate the World Jellyfish Day, we dedicate an entire weekend to some of the more primitive but at the same time extremely cool jellyfish.

Weekends: November 30 - December 1 December 7- 8 December 14 - 15

Even in the darkest corners of the ocean you will find light.

Many animals create their own light, and some has very large eyes to be able to see in the dark. We will elaborate on these facts as we focus on the luminescent animals living in the deep end of the oceans.

We will make our own luminescent animals and lamps as we get creative in preparation of the Christmas season with lots of Danish 'hygge' and pleated seals with a helping hand from our nice childrens' guides. And the café will be serving traditional Danish pancake puffs and hot cocoa at affordable prices.

On the day of Christmas Eve, we will have lots of "hygge", christmas elves and live music to pass the day before the big night. 

We are open from 9.30 - 13.00. 

Join us as we serve christmas dinner for the seals and all the animals in the large Oceanarium. 

The Nordsøen Oceanarium will be open between 10.00 - 16.00.
